Rocky Hill Obituary: Lucia Longo, 86

Condolences to her family and friends.

Lucia “Lucy” (Albani) Longo, 86, of Wethersfield, beloved wife of Anthony “Tony” S. Longo for 63 years, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Hartford Hospital surrounded by her family.

Lucy was born on August 19, 1929 in Floridia, Province of Siracusa, Sicily and was the daughter of the late Gaetano and Pasquala (Mattarazzo) Albani. Growing up in Sicily, she lived and worked on the family farm alongside her Dad until she was fifteen years old, later going to school to learn to be a seamstress. In 1950, she and her brother traveled by boat to America, arriving four days before her twenty first birthday.

Lucy lived on Front Street in Hartford and worked as a seamstress at several local dress factories. She met Tony and they married on Valentine’s Day in 1953, living in East Hartford with her in-laws for a few years. They moved to Rocky Hill, then finally settled in Wethersfield, where she and Tony raised their three children and her five grandchildren. Lucy and Tony were also fortunate to enjoy over twenty years in Newport Richey, FL during the winter months.

Besides her husband, she leaves two sons, Richard A. Longo and his wife Kim and Donald L. Longo; her daughter, Diana L. DeLorenzo and husband Michael; grandchildren, Rich, Chelsea, Haley and Thomas; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, along with Susie who lovingly cared for Momma and Pop. She was predeceased by her brothers, John, Anthony and Attilio and sisters, Carmen, Tina and Marie; brothers-in-law; Joe, Santo and Joe and sisters-in-law, Dorothy, Anna, Lena and Barbara and her grandson, Justin.

Calling hours are Sunday (June 5) from 3-6 p.m. at the D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, 277 Folly Brook Blvd., Wethersfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday (June 6) at 11:30 a.m. at Corpus Christi Church, 601 Silas Deane Highway, Wethersfield. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. The burial will be private.
