Rocky Hill Obituary: Maj. Glenn Colby, Sr., 51

Condolences to his family and friends.

Major Glenn Alan Colby Sr., United States Army, Ret. 51, of Rocky Hill, beloved husband of Ailyn (Canlas) Colby, passed away on Thursday, (August 24, 2017) at the West Haven Veterans Hospital after a valiant battle with cancer.

He was born in Pawtucket, RI. the son of Edna (Fagnant) Colby of Chesapeake, VA. and the late Richard Colby. Major Colby was a graduate of William M. Davies Technical High School. He received his Bachelors Degree from Roger Williams University in Providence, RI and studied Culinary Arts at Johnson and Wales University.

He joined the Rhode Island Army National Guard and was commissioned as officer, Second Lieutenant. Major Colby had an extensive career with the US Army. He served as Commander with Bravo Battery 1st Battalion 103rd Field Artillery of the Rhode Island National Guard stationed in Iraq from 2004 to 2005. When he returned from Iraq, Major Colby became a Professor of Military Science, working as a Recruiter at UConn and University of New Haven for ROTC. He retired from the Army National Guard after 28 years of honorable and dedicated service to his country.

Major Colby was Quartermaster of the Rocky Hill VFW Post 2138. He was also a member of Lodge #140 AF & AM Masonic Lodge 80 Walsh Ave Newington, and a member of St. James Church in Rocky Hill. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. In his free time he loved to cook for his family and friends.

Besides his wife and mother, Major Colby also leaves behind his loving son, Glenn Alan Colby, Jr. of Rocky Hill; a sister, Linda Davenport and her husband Gary of Moyock, NC; a nephew, James Gordon his wife Aiyanna and their daughter Ellie Mae; a niece, Lillian Davenport and his best friend George Duggan and his dear friend Sandy. He also leaves his beloved brothers of the lodge and many dear friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. James Church, 767 Elm St. Rocky Hill on Thursday (August 31, 2017) at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Colonel Raymond F. Gates Memorial Cemetery, Rocky Hill. Family and friends are invited Wednesday (August 30, 2017) from 4 to 7 PM at the Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm St. Rocky Hill.
