Rocky Hill Obituary: Margaret McGaughey, 87

Condolences to her family and friends.

Margaret “Peg” McGaughey of Rocky Hill, age 87, passed away peacefully at home on August 7, 2016 after a year-long illness. She was the widow of the late Edward McGaughey. They were married 64 years.

Peg (Peggy) was born in Vermont. In the 1940s she moved to Connecticut, where she met and married Ed. Peg and Ed owned and operated the Princess Parlor restaurant in Cromwell for a number of years. Peg also worked at Jensen’s, W.T. Grant’s, Jack August, Hukelau, Romeo’s and Abdow’s until her retirement.

Peg and Ed bowled in multiple leagues, and enjoyed the friends they made there. Peg continued bowling after Ed passed, until several months ago when she could no longer do so.

Peg is survived by her son Gary McGaughey (Francine) of Marlborough; son Richard McGaughey (Maureen) of Bradenton, FL; son Jeffrey McGaughey of Rocky Hill and his partner Kim Keys of Holland, MA; grandson Owen McGaughey of Toronto, Canada; grandson Edward McGaughey of Enfield; granddaughter Morgan McGaughey of New London; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff of Stay at Home Care, LLC and By Your Side, LLC for their compassionate care during Peg’s last few weeks.

Calling hours will be from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, August 24 at the Rose Hill Funeral Home, 580 Elm Street in Rocky Hill. Funeral service will be at Rose Hill at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 25.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
