Searching For Ice Age Fossils Online With Zoom

The Cora J. Belden Library is hosting this program on July 16.

Thursday, Jul. 16, 6:30 p.m. - 7:15p.m.

The ground within the vast wilderness of Siberia has remained frozen for tens of thousands of years. This icy “permafrost” acts as a natural freezer, which preserves any plants or animals that become trapped within it. Teams of paleontologists from around the world journey to this untouched landscape to search for ice age fossils locked within the permafrost. These special conditions have led to the discovery of multiple nearly perfectly preserved woolly mammoths, woolly rhinos, bison, horses, and wolves, some even possessing ancient hair, skin, and organs! Come join Dr. Joe El Adli, a Paleontologist, to learn about how scientists search for fossils in one of the most remote locations on Earth, and find out what these fossils can tell us about the ancient past. Join the conversation and you get to ask questions! Recommended for kids ages 5 and up.
