Violating Travel Ban On Interstate-91 Could Be Costly

"I don't close the roads too often," the governor said.

So if you are ever thinking about scoffing at a travel ban imposed by the governor and heading onto the highway, it could cost you.

That would be $92 for traveling on Interstate-91, state police said.

And the same fine goes for I-84 and Route 2 when the roads are officially closed, state police said.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy put the travel ban in effect at 5 a.m. Tuesday and said it would stand "until further notice," meaning after the snowstorm and when the highways are clear.

The reasoning, he said, is for plow crews to have the roads to themselves to get them cleared of snow.

"I don't close the roads too often folks," the governor said in a media briefing Tuesday morning.

The fine is in place anytime a travel ban is imposed, state police said.
