2 CT Men Facing Animal Cruelty Charges After Pets Found Starved, Dead

Police found 11 dogs and 3 cats in one home that were emaciated and in urgent need of medical attention.

ANSONIA, CT — Two Ansonia men are facing multiple charges including animal cruelty after investigators discovered multiple dogs severely neglected at a home on Condon Drive last week, police said.

Authorities executed a search warrant at the home in connection with an unrelated criminal investigation June 6, when they discovered 11 dogs and 3 cats emaciated and in urgent need of medical attention, according to police.

One dog was found dead and will undergo a necropsy to determine its cause of death, and two dogs later had to be "humanely euthanized due to their extreme medical conditions" despite efforts to save them, police added. Several other dogs are still receiving treatment.

Javon Coverson, 30, of was arrested and charged with eight counts of cruelty to animals, seven counts of failure to comply with dog ownership requirements, and seven counts of failure to comply with rabies control ordinances. He posted a $10,000 bond and has a court date set for June 20 in Derby Superior Court.

Also arrested and charged is Assante Coverson, 26, who is facing charges of cruelty to animals, failure to comply with dog ownership requirements, failure to comply with rabies control ordinances. He posted a $1,000 bond and has a court date set for June 14 in Derby Superior Court.

The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests may be made, according to police.
