2 Women Rescued From Ansonia House Fire: Police

Police and fire personnel forced their way into the Spring Street home after one of the residents told authorities she was trapped.

ANSONIA, CT — A mother and daughter trapped in a house fire in Ansonia were pulled to safety Tuesday night after police and fire personnel were able to force their way into the home to rescue them.

Authorities were called to the home on Spring Street around 7:30 p.m., according to a release from the Ansonia Police Department. A woman who lived in the home had called police, telling them her house was on fire and she was trapped.

The first officers who arrived at the fire — Sgt. Alex Barreira and Sgt. Ed Magera — forced their way into the home, police said. With the help of Ansonia Assistant Fire Chief Anthony Delucia, the officers were able to rescue a woman and her 90-year-old mother, police said.

Both officers, as well as the younger woman, were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation. The elderly female was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was treated for minor injuries and released.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
