$25 Million Judgement for Ansonia Woman in Medical Malpractice Case: Report
Virginia Schneider lost the lower part of her left leg due to a clot.

ANSONIA, CT — Virginia Schneider, of Ansonia, lost the lower part of one of her legs due to a clot, and for her plight a jury in Bridgeport recently awarded her nearly $25 million in a medical malpractice case, reports the Connecticut Law Tribune.
Schneider was 18 years old when she suffered an asthma attack in 2009 and sought medical attention at Griffin Hospital in Derby. While there, doctors discovered the clot and sought the help of a vascular surgeon with Southern Connecticut Vascular Center of Trumbull named Dr. Marsel Huribal, because Schneider was experiencing numbness in her left leg.
She should have been admitted to the hospital and treated, according to the publication, but instead Dr. Huribal sent her home and her condition worsened to the point that she needed to have her leg amputated below the knee.

Schneider sued Dr. Huribal and Southern Connecticut Vascular Center of Trumbull, and the judgement broke down as $4.2 million in economic damages and $20.7 million for pain and suffering. Griffin Hospital was found partially responsible and settled privately, according to Schneider's attorneys, Joshua Koskoff and Katie Mesner-Hage of Bridgeport-based Koskoff, Koskoff & Bieder.
