SHELTON, CT — Three teens were arrested Thursday on assault charges stemming from a fight outside a Shelton home in May, which police said was connected to a separate fight later that night in which 17-year-old Fairfield Prep student Jimmy McGrath was fatally stabbed.

In a news release, police said a 16-year-old male and two 17-year-old males turned themselves in to police Thursday based on arrest warrants.

Their identities were not released due to their ages, however police noted none of them are Shelton residents.

According to police, these arrests stem from an altercation that took place outside a Lazy Brook Road home on May 14 after a 16-year-old male, who was invited to a party at the home, was assaulted by the three teens.

During the incident, one of the teens assaulted the 16-year-old with a helmet, police said.

Police also noted the altercation is related to a fight and the fatal stabbing of McGrath that occurred a short time later on Laurel Glen Drive.

"The incident on Laurel Glen Drive is still an open investigation that is being conducted by the Shelton Detective Bureau," police said in a news release.

One 17-year-old was charged with second-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace. He was released after posting a $25,000 bond, police said.

The other two teens were each charged with third-degree assault and second-degree breach of peace and later released. All three teens are scheduled to appear in juvenile court next month.
