74-Year-Old Grandmother Accused of Dealing Drugs: Shelton Police

Also arrested was the woman's 56-year-old son following a month-long investigation.

SHELTON, CT - A 74-year-old grandmother and her 56-year-old son were arrested early Wednesday in connection with the woman's alleged illegal prescription drug sales, according to Shelton police.

Arrested were Arlene Bruneau and Richard Rich; Bruneau was charged with:

  • Sale of a Controlled Substance (2 counts)
  • Injury/Risk and Impairing Morals of a child

Rich was charged with:

  • Illegal Possession
  • Use of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Failure to Keep Drug in Original Container

Earlier today, June 1, members of the Shelton Police and the DEA New Haven District Office Tactical Diversion Squad arrested Bruneau at her Howe Avenue home in Shelton. Also arrested was Rich. Also in the home was Bruneau's 15-year-old grandson, a juvenile, who was not charged; police did not disclose whether he is Rich's son.

The arrests stem from a month-long investigation "where it was determined that Bruneau was selling her personally prescribed prescription pills out of her home on Howe Avenue in Shelton," said police in a statement. They did not disclose what specific drugs she was allegedly selling.

During Bruneau's arrest, authorities discovered that her Rich "was in possession of narcotics and failed to keep prescription pills in the original container."
