SHELTON, CT — Police have provided a list of safety tips for Shelton residents in light of an uptick in vehicle thefts and break-ins, according to the Shelton Police Department.
In a Facebook post Tuesday, police said "vehicle break ins and thefts are on the rise," and Kia and Hyundai vehicles continue to be targeted by thieves who can strike in seconds.
According to an image included in the department's post, both types of vehicles are being specifically targeted due to a simple method to bypass the ignition and start the car without keys or fobs.
"Thieves work very quickly and mostly in the overnight hours," the image reads.
The department also provided the following safety tips for vehicle owners in Shelton:
"If you see something, say something," the department's post reads. "Together, we can keep Shelton safe."
