Fire Breaks Out Inside Industrial Pillow Dryer At Commercial Building In Shelton: FD

SHELTON, CT — A fire broke out inside an industrial pillow dryer Monday night at a commercial building in Shelton, according to the Shelton Fire Department.

In a news release, fire officials said crews responded to an activated waterflow alarm around 9 p.m. at a single-story, non-combustible manufacturing facility on River Road.

While nothing was visible from the outside of the building, firefighters discovered a light haze and an odor of smoke coming from the basement, according to fire officials.

After further investigation, crews located a fire inside an industrial pillow dryer, officials said.

The building's automatic deluge sprinkler system successfully controlled the fire, preventing it from spreading into occupied space prior to crews' arrival, officials said.

Crews quickly extinguished the remaining smoldering fire, removed burned pillows from the dryer and ensured all remaining hot spots were extinguished, according to fire officials.

Firefighters also confirmed there was no extension into the overhead conveyor system or exhaust stack, officials said.

The fire marshal's office is conducting an investigation, officials said.
