Shelton's only DAR chapter – Ripton Parish Chapter – received four national awards at the June 2026 National Society Daughters of the American Revolution Continental Congress in Washington, DC.
Outgoing Chapter Regent Pat King said, "It is quite the honor to be recognized by the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution for what we accomplished from the time we met with State Regent Jolene Mullen on August 21, 2025, to talk about establishing a new chapter in Shelton, to our organizing meeting on September 20th, to October 11, 2025 – the day we were officially confirmed by NSDAR to become Ripton Parish Chapter!"
Christine Schmied, Chapter Regent, said she was proud of our Shelton chapter and looks forward to its continued success and growth. She reiterated the mission of NSDAR: "The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to promote Historic Preservation, Education, and Patriotism across the United States. Since the Society's founding, more than one million women have found purpose and passion in DAR membership." Regent Schmied said she looks forward to welcoming any woman 18 years old or older, regardless of race, religion or ethnic background, who can prove direct lineage to a Revolutionary War ancestor.
At the September Chapter Meeting, outgoing Regent Pat King presented newly elected Chapter Regent Christine Schmied with a Ripton Parish Chapter gavel and the Chapter Regent pin. On receiving the gavel, Regent Schmied said she is excited to grow our chapter in the Shelton community. Members will be very active in the school system; along with helping the veterans of Shelton, and many other organizations.
