Firefighters Face ‘Significant Hoarding Conditions’ While Battling House Fire In Shelton: Officials

SHELTON, CT — Several residents were displaced and a home was declared to be uninhabitable after a fire Sunday morning in Shelton, according to officials.

Crews responded around 9:20 a.m. on Sept. 13 to a fire on Day Break Lane, and officials said heavy fire was reported showing from three windows of a single-story ranch home.

Firefighters were confronted with "high heat and significant hoarding conditions," according to a news release from the Shelton Fire Department.

"As members tried to clear a path to locate the fire, additional units began entering through windows in attempt to locate potential victims," officials wrote.

After several minutes, officials said crews cleared a path enough to get to the seat of the fire and begin extinguishment.

"Several searches proved negative," officials wrote. "Fortunately, a neighbor advised FD that the occupants were all accounted for in his house across the street."

Dozens of firefighters, along with members of Stratford Engine 4 and Car 5 operated at the scene for just over an hour, according to officials.

"No injuries occurred and the home is not habitable," officials wrote. "The Fire Marshals office is conducting an investigation on the cause of the fire. Echo Hose Ambulance provided standby support in the event of any injuries. The Nichols, Derby and Monroe Fire departments provided station coverage while the Shelton units worked the fire."

FOX 61 reports three residents and a dog were displaced from the home.
