City Of Shelton Fall Leaf Collection, Compost Site Schedules (newhavenindependent.org) — Shelton residents will have citywide curbside collection of bagged leaves Oct. 26–30 and Nov. 30–Dec. 4, but only brown biodegradable paper bags will be picked up. You can also drop leaves at the Willoughby Road compost site next to Elizabeth Shelton School on weekdays, with Saturday closures and holiday exceptions, where dumpsters will accept loose and paper‑bagged leaves only.
   

2. Women In Networking Council Announces Sixth Annual PowHERful Conversations (newhavenindependent.org) — Shelton professionals can register now for the Greater Valley Chamber's PowHERful Conversations breakfast on October 6 at the Courtyard by Marriott on Bridgeport Avenue. The networking and panel event raises money for microgrants that have already supported women-owned businesses in Shelton and nearby Valley towns, helping fund equipment, marketing, technology, and professional training.
   

3. Monroe Hot Sauce Company Refuses Recall Amid Botulism Risk: State (patch.com) — Shelton shoppers who bought Phire in the Hole hot sauces at Beardsley's Cider Mill & Orchard between November 2025 and August 17, 2026 are being warned not to eat them due to a potential botulism risk. State officials embargoed remaining stock after finding the Monroe maker lacked required approvals, and urge anyone with symptoms like weakness or trouble breathing to seek immediate care.
   

4. Shelton Trader Joe's sells for nearly $7.9 million (hartfordbusiness.com subscription) — Shelton's Trader Joe's-anchored retail plaza at 775 Bridgeport Avenue recently sold for nearly $7.9 million, according to town land records. The 1.75-acre property, completed in 2025, changed hands to out-of-state investment groups and is assessed locally at $3.4 million, underscoring the corridor's growing commercial value.
   

5. Week 1 Connecticut high school football top performers (sheltonherald.com) — Connecticut high school football's opening week featured standout performances across the state, including Shelton's own Cole St. Pierre, who scored two early rushing touchdowns in the Gaels' 30-0 win over Hillhouse. The roundup highlights big rushing, passing, and defensive efforts that shaped key victories from New London to Southington.
