Constitution Week Display at Plumb Library’s Children Section

Constitution Week is celebrated annually during the week of September 17-23 to commemorate its history, importance, and bring attention to how this significant document still serves us today. Plumb Memorial Library's children's section has a Ripton Parish Chapter DAR Constitution Week display geared toward children of all ages.

Also, the Plumb Children's Library is starting a monthly "Book Cubs" for children 5 to 8 years old on September 17 from 5:30-6:30. "The NEW monthly book club is specifically geared for early elementary school children WITH their caregiver too. Each month, Miss Maura will provide dinner plus while she reads a 2027 Nutmeg Nominee Book for all to enjoy. Then each kid/caregiver pair will engage in a book-inspired activity. Then lastly each pair will cast your vote in a mock book election too! NO pre-reading of the monthly book is necessary." Dinner will generously be provided by the Friends of the Shelton Libraries.

September 17 also begins Constitution Week. Our U.S. Constitution was a revolutionary document at the time. In 1797 monarchs ruled their subjects. Our Founding Fathers envisioned a government in service to its citizens. The citizens were given the right to vote in elections.This idea of free citizens carries over with the children in the Book Club voting in a mock book election.

Then on September 23 which ends Constitution Week, Plumb's Children's Library begins board games for children 4 to 6 years old and is called "It's Your Turn!" from 2:30-3:30.

"It's time to play! Follow the directions, wait your turn, abide by the game rules and 'be a good sport'…children ages 4, 5, 6 years old and their caregivers are welcome to join Miss Maura to play a variety of provided board games. Board games are great for beginner readers as they teach kids valuable life skills such as: problem solving, making friends, communication, patience and regulating emotions of anticipation, excitement and disappointment too."

Similar to a board game, our U.S. Constitution establishes the structures and conditions of our rule as a standard of liberty. America was one of the first countries to reject the rule of the few elites. Our Constitution lays out the laws and protections of our nation and its citizens. Miss Maura's board games helps us to become better citizens and is fun at the same time.

Registration is required for each child participating in the Plumb Library's activities. Register online, through a link on Miss Maura's Programs Facebook Page, or by calling (203) 924-1580 ext. 5108. New Program Policy: Please only register your child for 3 programs per month. This is being done to provide as many children an opportunity to attend a library program.
