Armed Carjacker Menaces Elderly Driver, Steals Vehicle In Seymour: PD

The victim had given the perpetrator a ride, according to police.

SEYMOUR, CT — An armed carjacker stole the vehicle of an elderly man who had given him a ride from the Waterbury train station Wednesday morning, according to police.

The male suspect was later apprehended in New York, police said.

The carjacking happened in the area of South Main Street and Pearl Street. According to police, the victim had given the suspect a ride after he asked for transportation to New York.

While enroute, the victim exited Route 8 and stopped at the Henny Penny in Seymour to get gas. However, the victim was unable to secure funds to purchase the fuel, so he continued driving in the area of South Main Street and Pearl Street, police said.

At that point, the passenger brandished a firearm, ordered the victim out of the vehicle, and drove away, according to police. A passerby later saw the victim walking along the road, learned what happened and called police.

Local police worked with other law enforcement, and through license plate reader data, police found the vehicle was southbound on the Merritt Parkway.

Law enforcement in Westchester County in New York found the vehicle and took the suspect into custody.

Seymour police are seeking to extradite the suspect, and they will publicly identify him and announce the charges against him once he is arrested locally.

The investigation is ongoing.
