Bear Spotted in Shelton: Police

The Shelton Police Department announced that bear sightings have been reported today at Sinsabaugh Heights, Cynthia Lane, Country Walk Condos and Black Hills Road.

Police received reports throughout the morning and early afternoon hours of a black bear sighting.

Upon arrival to the dispatched areas the bear had already left the area, police said.

“Residents should always take certain precautions, in order to lessen the degree of black bear activity occurring within their neighborhoods such as securing trash containers and placing them curbside as close to pick-up time as possible, washing or spraying trash containers with a disinfectant in order to eliminate food odors, removing bird feeders, and if household pets are fed outdoors, removing the bowls and food soon after feeding,” the Shelton Police Department wrote. 

The department reminds residents to report bear sightings to DEEP.
