Blumenthal, Murphy Make Decision on Trump Inauguration, Cabinet Nominees

The two also voiced support for United States Rep. John Lewis (D-Georgia), who called Trump's legitimacy as president into question.

Connecticut's two Democratic senators, Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy, will attend the inauguration of President-Elect Donald Trump on Friday, but made it clear this week that they are displeased with Trump's comments about United States Rep. John Lewis of Georgia, reports the Connecticut Post.

Lewis called into question Trump's legitimacy as president, due to Russian meddling into the election, which drew a negative response from Trump on Twitter. The two senators are calling for a bipartisan investigation into Russia's involvement in hacking both political parties.

During a joint press conference in Connecticut this week, both senators also expressed concern over some of Trump's cabinet picks, and said they plan to oppose many of them.

"Senator [Jeff] Sessions has failed to convince me that he will be a champion of constitutional rights: voting rights, women’s health care and privacy rights, and anti-discrimination protections," said Blumenthal in a statement. "Rather, he has demonstrated hostility and antipathy – even downright opposition – to these bedrock Constitutional principles."

Concerning Secretary of State nominee Rex Tillerson, Murphy stated, "Incredibly, after several rounds of pressing questions, he refused to acknowledge a litany of human rights abuses and war crimes being perpetuated around the world. Mr. Tillerson would not acknowledge that the Russian bombing of Aleppo is a war crime, nor that Saudi Arabia violates the human rights of political dissidents or women, nor the clear evidence of thousands of extrajudicial killings in the Philippines. Clearly, Mr. Tillerson is an experienced businessman, but his testimony confirms that he is not prepared to be our next Secretary of State."
