SHELTON, CT — Two juveniles were arrested early Sunday morning after a car was stolen from a driveway in Shelton, according to police.

In a news release, Police Lt. Robert Kozlowsky said the vehicle was reported stolen around 2:15 a.m.

Officers on patrol were soon able to find it, as well as another vehicle that appeared to be connected with the stolen car, Kozlowsky said. Officers tried to stop the vehicles but disengaged after the drivers fled the area.

According to Kozlowsky, police later learned the vehicle that was following the stolen car had crashed and the driver had fled from the vehicle on foot. When officers arrived in the area of the crash, they also found the stolen car there.

The driver of the stolen car attempted to flee the area and struck a police vehicle. Three people then fled from the stolen vehicle on foot, two of whom were caught by police, according to Kozlowsky.

Both juveniles were 14-year-old Hamden residents. They were charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, engaging in pursuit, reckless driving, interfering and operating a motor vehicle without a license.

Both juveniles were released to a parent. One was wearing an ankle bracelet, so police notified his probation officer as well, Kozlowsky said.

Kozlowsky also noted the stolen vehicle was reportedly unlocked with the keys left inside.

"Police again are reminding residents to lock their vehicles and take the keys inside," Kozlowsky said in a news release.
