Why are you seeking this office?

I'm running for State Representative because I believe Shelton deserves a strong local voice in Hartford. Someone who will act independently and stand up to special interests and big developers. As a lifelong Shelton resident, current Alderman, small business owner, and former medical technologist at Griffin Hospital, I understand the challenges facing our families, businesses, and community.

For every dollar Shelton residents send to Hartford via the state income tax, only eight cents comes back to our community. It is long past time for a change.

My priorities include bringing more state funding back to Shelton, improving school funding, lowering the cost of living, addressing high energy costs, supporting small businesses, strengthening infrastructure, and investing in workforce development. I also want to make sure first responders have the resources they need and that residents’ healthcare and privacy rights are protected.

I have spent decades serving Shelton through local government, community organizations, volunteer work, and small business. I’m running for State Representative to bring that experience to Hartford and make sure Shelton’s needs are heard and addressed.

What do you believe is the No. 1 issue facing Connecticut, and how do you plan to address it?

I believe affordability and the rising cost of living are among the biggest challenges facing Connecticut families, seniors, and small businesses. As State Representative, I would focus on targeted tax cuts and relief that put more money back into people’s pockets, including eliminating the state income tax on retirement income, restoring the child tax credit, creating property tax relief for seniors, and reducing energy costs by removing the public benefits charge. I would also support small businesses through tax relief and expanded access to low-interest loans, while working to ensure Shelton receives its fair share of state funding.

Energy costs have been soaring in Connecticut. What are your plans to help address this issue?

Energy costs are putting a real strain on Connecticut families and businesses. I would work to remove the Public Benefits Charge from monthly electric bills and reduce the costs that are being passed on to ratepayers. I also believe PURA needs stronger enforcement authority and the resources to hold utilities accountable when they fail customers or engage in improper practices. Finally, towns should have the ability to pursue their own municipal utility options, similar to Wallingford, which operates a municipally owned electric utility. My goal is to give communities more control, strengthen oversight of utilities, and put downward pressure on energy costs for Connecticut residents.

Affordability has been a major topic across the country and here in Connecticut. How do you plan to address this issue?

Affordability is one of the biggest challenges facing Connecticut families, and I believe we need to focus on lowering the overall cost of living. That means lowering taxes, reducing utility rates, and making sure Shelton gets a fairer return from the state. For every dollar Shelton residents pay in state income tax, only eight cents comes back to our city in municipal aid. As State Representative, I would work to bring more state funding back to Shelton, reduce the tax burden on residents and businesses, and pursue policies that lower energy and utility costs so families have more money left in their pockets.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

I believe my record of service in Shelton and my experience as a small business owner have prepared me well for this job. I have been involved in the Shelton community since the 1980s, including helping co-found the first Shelton Day Festival, and I have spent decades working with and for the people of this community. As a successful small business owner, I understand the importance of balancing the books, managing expenses, and making responsible financial decisions. As an Alderman, I have also gained firsthand experience with municipal budgeting and working to address the needs of our residents. Whether it is organizing a clothing drive, helping with food donations, or finding ways to support families in need, I have always believed in being there for my community. I will bring that same hands-on approach to Hartford, with the opportunity to advocate for Shelton and bring additional resources back home.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

I believe Shelton deserves a true independent voice at the table. I’m proud to be endorsed by the Independent Party because I believe a State Representative should represent the people of their district, not a political party. My commitment will always be to listening to Shelton residents, working across party lines when necessary, and putting the needs of our community first.
