Why are you seeking this office?
I chose this area of the Valley to settle down and call my home. I am the grandson of a Portuguese immigrant, and my Father is a Veteran and Purple Heart recipient. I was taught from an early age what showing up, and earning what you build really looks like. Beacon Falls, Derby, and Seymour deserve more than Hartford photo-ops. I'm running to break down and work on the cost of living crisis, and help build a District that works for the people who built it.
What do you believe is the No. 1 issue facing Connecticut, and how do you plan to address it?
Cost of living issues are being made worse by corporate profit lines, unpredictable education funding, and food insecurity. I plan to break down the subject and work top-down on the list, with resident input, on what's impacting them most.
Energy costs have been soaring in Connecticut. What are your plans to help address this issue?
I want to end the public benefit charge, monopoly over electricity, support municipal and/or regional competition, remove red tape to cap utility increases, and advocate for strategic incorporation of certain renewable energy.
Affordability has been a major topic across the country and here in Connecticut. How do you plan to address this issue?
I support a fairer tax code to lessen the burden on lower earners once and for all. The State of Connecticut also needs to finally and properly fund education so local municipalities are not pit against their residents to make-up the pitfalls, like with ECS. Our seniors need relief in order to age-in-place comfortably, and we need to continue the fight against food insecurity that is growing in all neighborhoods across the state. Finally, as the 2nd most reliant state on local property taxes, I support legislation that provides relief to residents of my District.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
A notable achievement both professionally and personally, was helping to launch an all-inclusive 18+ support meeting in the Valley. Welcoming anyone identifying with a marginalized group, it has been a great example of people of all ages looking for a way to connect with others. It has given me insight into the problems our local youth our facing, and is one of the inspirations behind stepping into the race.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
I want to build bridges between our towns, our neighbors, and our future. The Valley has always been stronger together, and it’s time we put a stronger Valley back in motion with leadership that listens first and leads second.
