CT Primary 2026: What Shelton-Derby Voters Need To Know

SHELTON-DERBY CT — Voters will head to the polls Tuesday, Aug. 11, for Connecticut’s 2026 primary election, with races for governor and Congress among the contests on ballots across the state.

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The biggest statewide contest is the Democratic primary for governor between incumbent Gov. Ned Lamont and state Rep. Josh Elliott of Hamden.

There is no Republican primary for governor. State Sen. Ryan Fazio is the Republican candidate for governor and will advance to the November general election.

Connecticut holds closed primaries, meaning voters generally must be registered with a political party to vote in that party’s primary.

Here’s what Shelton-Derby voters need to know before heading to the polls:

Where To Vote In Shelton and Derby

Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Shelton's polling locations are:

• District 1: Elizabeth Shelton School
• District 2: Shelton Intermediate School
• District 3: Long Hill School
• District 4: Mohegan School

All four districts will be used for the Democratic primary.

For the Republican congressional primary, only Shelton voters who live within Connecticut's 4th Congressional District will participate. Those voters cast ballots in District 1 at Elizabeth Shelton School or District 4 at Mohegan School.

Derby's polling locations are:

• District 104- Irving School - 9 Garden Place

• District 105- Irving School – 9 Garden Place

• District 114- Bradley School 155 David Humphrey’s Road

• Absentee Ballots- City Hall – 1 Elizabeth Street

Voters should confirm their assigned polling location through the Connecticut Secretary of the State's voter lookup before heading to the polls.

Voters who are in line when polls close at 8 p.m. are allowed to cast a ballot.

What’s On The Ballot In Shelton and Derby?

Some Shelton voters will also have a Republican congressional primary on their ballots.

Republicans living in the portion of Shelton within Connecticut's 4th Congressional District will choose between Michael Goldstein and Daniel Miressi for the GOP nomination.

The winner will advance to the November general election.

The Democratic Primary For Governor

Democratic voters statewide will choose between Gov. Ned Lamont and state Rep. Josh Elliott.

Lamont is seeking a third term as governor, while Elliott, a Hamden lawmaker, is challenging him for the Democratic nomination.

The winner of Tuesday’s primary will advance to the Nov. 3 general election, where Republican Ryan Fazio is the GOP candidate for governor.
