CT State Police Warn of Fake News Facebook Page

The online page, which has since been taken down, spoke of a trooper allegedly being cleared of wrongdoing.

Connecticut State Police are warning the public that a recent Facebook page that looked like it came from them was in fact a fake news site.

The online page, which has since been taken down, spoke of a trooper allegedly being cleared of wrongdoing for stealing cash and jewelry from a motorcyclist in 2012.

"[This] is NOT a Connecticut State Police Facebook page," wrote Trooper First Class Kelly Grant in a statement. "Unfortunately 'Gabriel Starr' has moved from posting derogatory comments under the official Connecticut State Police Facebook page posts to creating his own CSP page."

Grant did not disclose further details of this individual, but told Patch that a way for social media users to know that a page is an official CSP page is to look for a 'check' mark.

Additionally, Grant did not disclose specific actions the department may or may not be taking against this individual.

"If anything illegal is noted it will be investigated," stated Grant.
