Derby Big Y Officially Announced

The company has a tentative opening time period in mind.

DERBY, CT — Big Y is officially coming to Derby in the former Walmart plaza. The store will open during 2019.

Big Y will occupy 60,000 square feet of the New Haven Avenue building and will be the company's 71st location, according to a press release.

More than 150 full and part-time positions will be created when the market opens and a number of construction jobs will be supported throughout the renovation process.

“We are excited to announce this addition to our Connecticut community of stores,” said Charles D’Amour, Big Y’s President and Chief Operating Officer. “We look forward to bringing Big Y’s world class service, quality and selection closer to shoppers in Derby and surrounding communities.”

The shopping plaza will be overhauled with a multi-million dollar renovation by DLC Management Corporation. Improvements to the building, parking, lighting and landscaping will be performed.
