Derby Man Tried To Burglarize Vehicles, Had Key To Stolen Car: PD

The Derby man and a minor were charged with attempted burglary, police said, adding three more vehicles were later reported stolen.

FAIRFIELD, CT — A Derby man and a minor face charges after they were seen trying to burglarize vehicles at a condo complex near the downtown Fairfield train station, according to police, who said the man had a key to a stolen car.

The incident occurred Aug. 5 near the Mosswood Condominiums in the 200 block of Unquowa Road, north of the town center, a police report said. Quadele Vickers, 18, and a juvenile were seen attempting to enter vehicles parked in the lot of the complex before they were found further up the street, walking out of a yard in the 400 block of Unquowa Road, according to law enforcement. Vickers had a key fob for a stolen 2020 Nissan Versa, which was parked nearby at Tomlinson Middle School, police said.

After the pair were arrested, three more vehicles were reported stolen from the Mosswood complex, and another was rummaged through, according to law enforcement. The stolen vehicles included a 2018 Lexus ES 350, a 2020 Jeep Renegade and a 2020 Honda Civic, police said.

Vickers, of the 100 block of Olivia Street, was charged with second-degree larceny in connection with the stolen vehicle, as well as attempted third-degree burglary and attempted sixth-degree larceny, according to police. The juvenile was charged with attempted third-degree burglary and attempted sixth-degree larceny, law enforcement said.

Both Vickers and the minor were released on a promise to appear in court, police said. Vickers is set to be arraigned Sept. 9 in Bridgeport, while the minor is scheduled to appear Sept. 2 in juvenile court in New Haven, according to law enforcement.
