Derby Now Hiring For School Crossing Guard Position

DERBY, CT — The city is looking to hire a school crossing guard to help children safely cross the road in designated areas.

According to a job listing posted to the Derby police Facebook page, responsibilities include monitoring and stopping traffic to allow children to safely cross the roadway, monitoring and directing school bus and vehicular traffic at specified locations, maintaining discipline at crossing sites in a positive and caring manner and maintaining a courteous attitude with motorists while working an assigned post.

The position's hourly rate is $20. Crossing guards will be scheduled to work 7.5 hours per week, according to police.

Hours (Monday through Friday)
  • Bradley School: morning (7:30 a.m. to 8:15 a.m.); afternoon (2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m.)
  • Irving School: morning (8:15 a.m. to 9 a.m.); afternoon (3 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.)

According to police, the position is seasonal with no city benefits. Applications are available at the Derby Police Department, located at 125 Water Street.
