Derby Police Launch New Drone Team

DERBY, CT — The Derby Police Department announced this week the launch of a newly certified drone team.

In a Facebook post Tuesday, police said the drone team's officers recently completed a rigorous FAA certification course and "are ready to take to the skies to enhance public safety."

According to police, the department's drone will help officers with:

• Search & Rescue: Quickly locating missing persons or lost individuals.

• Accident & Crime Scene Analysis: Capturing aerial views for thorough investigations.

• Crowd Monitoring & Public Safety: Supporting large events and emergency situations.

• Evidence Gathering: Providing perspectives that aren’t always visible from the ground.

"This technology gives our department a new set of eyes in the sky," police wrote on Facebook, "helping us respond faster and more efficiently while keeping our community safe."
