As the weather warms up, the Derby Police Department has released a list of spring safety reminders for residents.

DERBY, CT — As the weather warms up, the Derby Police Department has released a list of spring safety reminders for residents.

In a Facebook post Friday, police said spring has officially arrived, "which 'hopefully' means we can finally say goodbye to our shovels after this long, snowy, brutal winter."

According to police, more people will be out walking, biking and enjoying the sunshine around Derby with warmer weather and longer days as a result of spring's arrival.

In light of this, residents are asked to keep these safety reminders in mind, according to police:

  • Slow down and watch for pedestrians and cyclists.
  • Use extra caution around schools, parks and neighborhoods.

"Our officers will be out on patrol helping keep Derby safe while everyone enjoys the start of spring," police wrote on Facebook. "Get outside, enjoy the sunshine, and have a safe and happy first day of spring!"
