Derby Police Share Back To School Safety Tips

DERBY, CT — As the new school year gets underway over the next few weeks, Derby police have shared a list of safety tips for residents.

In a Facebook post Saturday, police reminded drivers to slow down and pay extra attention while traveling through the city.

The following back to school safety tips were shared by the Derby Police Department:

• Watch for children walking or riding bicycles to and from school.
• Be alert for school buses making frequent stops.
• Follow posted speed limits and never pass a stopped school bus.
• Put the phone down and keep your eyes on the road.
• Expect increased pedestrian and vehicle traffic around schools and bus stops.

"A few extra seconds of patience can make all the difference," police wrote on Facebook. "Please do your part to help keep our students, families, crossing guards and school staff safe. From all of us at the Derby Police Department — have a safe and successful school year!"
