Derby Welcomes 3 New Police Recruits
The three are slated to graduate from the academy in June of next year.

DERBY, CT — During a brief ceremony last week, the Derby Police Department Board of Police Commissioners swore in three new police recruits.
The three - Catherine Garcia, Ariam Rivera, and Matthew Tartaglione - are scheduled to begin training at the Connecticut Police Academy on on Dec. 30, with a tentative graduation date of June 19, 2017.

Catherine Garcia (age 25) is from New York and, more recently New Haven. Employed as a physical therapist aid and is also a Second Lieutenant / platoon leader in the United States Army Reserves. Bilingual / fluent in Spanish. Bachelor of Arts from CUNY Hunter College (writing) and is presently working towards a second degree (diet / nutrition).
Ariam Rivera (age 23) is from Bridgeport and was born in Puerto Rico. Employed as an educational coordinator in Norwalk through the Housing Authority. Bilingual / fluent in Spanish. Bachelor of Science from the University of Bridgeport (Criminal Justice).

Matthew Tartaglione (age 29) from Trumbull. Employed as para professional aide in Fairfield. Bachelor of Arts from Central CT State University (criminal justice) where he also played football and Masters in criminal justice from Sacred Heart.
