Driver With Serious Injuries Freed From Vehicle: Shelton Fire

Fire officials said a driver with serious injuries was extricated from their car after it went 300 feet off the road and down into a ravine.

SHELTON, CT — A driver with serious injuries was extricated from their car late New Year's Eve after the vehicle went 300 feet off a road in Shelton and down into a ravine, according to fire officials.

In a news release posted to Facebook, fire officials said the single-vehicle accident was reported Sunday around 11 p.m. on Route 8 North near the Exit 13 on ramp.

Firefighters found the driver pinned inside the vehicle and used several extrication tools and stabilization struts to free them. Crews also rigged a 3:1 rope system to help bring the driver up to an ambulance, according to fire officials.

The driver was taken to a local trauma facility with serious injuries, fire officials said. State police are investigating the cause of the crash.
