Durham Announces School Bus Layoff In Shelton

The move comes as the city gets ready to take over the school bus contract.

SHELTON, CT — Durham School Services has notified the state Department of Labor of 107 potential layoffs as the company could lose its contract with Shelton Public Schools. The date of the layoffs is July 1.

Durham School Services told the Shelton Herald that affected employees will be offered opportunities to transfer to other Durham locations throughout the U.S.

Durham is still in negotiations with Shelton to maintain the contract, Mayor Mark Lauretti said. The city is set to assume the transportation contract for $3.1 million, which is $1 million less than Durham.
