SHELTON, CT — An expensive hairless cat named Princess has been found safe after a theft kept the pet and its owner apart for months, according to Shelton police.

Princess was reported stolen Jan. 22, along with Fendi and Gucci bags, from a hotel room in the city, police said, adding there were no signs of forced entry at the scene.

Zyair Lopez, 20, and Toni Douglas-Alves, 24, were arrested in February and charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree larceny and conspiracy counts, according to police, but Princess remained missing.

In recent days, detectives got a call from a person in Massachusetts who had bought a hairless cat a few months earlier in Bridgeport for $1,300 but had learned the animal may have been stolen, police said. Detectives met with the person Saturday and the cat was confirmed to be Princess, who was set to be reunited with the owner this weekend, according to police.

“We appreciate the integrity of the female who purchased the cat for $1,300 and notified police once she learned the cat was stolen so the animal could go back to the rightful owner,” Shelton police said in a news release.
