Grenade-Like Object Found At Ansonia Public Works Facility: Police

An Ansonia Public Works facility was temporarily closed Tuesday for a police investigation after an object resembling a grenade was found.

ANSONIA, CT — An Ansonia Public Works facility was temporarily closed Tuesday after an object resembling a grenade was found, and later disposed of, according to police.

In a Facebook post around 10:30 a.m., Ansonia police said the facility on North Division Street was temporarily closed due to a police investigation.

According to police, Public Works employees found an object that resembled a grenade in the grass along the entrance road to the complex around 8:30 a.m.

The object was assessed by both a fire marshal and state police, and later disposed of by state police.

According to police, the object was "determined to be homemade and contained unknown material."

Police also noted in a follow up post around 1 p.m. there was no danger to the community and the Public Works facility would reopen Wednesday at 6 a.m.
