Heavy Fire Breaks Out At Shelton Condominium: FD

Crews fought heavy flames and heat and needed to cut holes in the building's roof in order to extinguish the blaze, fire officials said.

SHELTON, CT — Firefighters fought heavy flames and heat as they worked to extinguish a blaze that broke out Thursday afternoon at a condominium in Shelton, according to fire officials.

In a news release, fire officials said crews were called to Summerfield Gardens around 2 p.m. after receiving a report of a smoking electrical box. As crews responded, they received multiple calls about a generator on fire.

When firefighters arrived, they found a structure fire with heavy flames visible on the side of a 2-unit condominium, officials said.

Crews extinguished the fire outside the building and made their way inside, where they encountered heavy heat and zero visibility, officials said. Heavy fire was also found in the building's basement.

The fire then entered through the building's soffit and extended to the attic and other areas, forcing crews to cut holes in the roof to locate the hidden fire, officials said. The fire did not extend to the adjoining unit.
