Historic CT Bakery Closes Its Doors
The longest-running bakery in the Valley has shut down.

ANSONIA, CT — Eddy's Bake Shop has announced that it will close its doors after two years in business under new ownership and decades as a Main Street staple.
The bakery posted the following on Facebook: "We would like to take a minute and thank all of our customers for their continued support in the past 2 years. Unfortunately Eddy’s Bake Shop will not be reopening its doors. Please visit our sister bakery Marjolaine Pastry Shop for all of your pastry needs."
There was an outpouring of support on Facebook following the bakery's closure.

Eddy's had posted on Aug. 3 that the business would be closing for summer break but that it would reopen later. However, another posting last week announced the closure.
Owners Raul and Arlene Cardenas purchased the bakery from the Ciocca family in 2017, The New Haven Register reported. Twin brothers Mike and Paul Ciocca had decided to retire from the Valley's longest-running bakery after 50 years in the business.
When the Cardenas family reopened the bakery in January 2018, it was after months renovating and updating old equipment, according to The Connecticut Post. Eddie's Bake Shop was particularly well known for its rye, pumpernickel, and challah breads.
Marjolaine Pastry Shop, which the Cardenas family runs, is located at 961 State St. in New Haven and won CT Now's Best of New Haven poll in 2017.
