Home Damaged After Fire Breaks Out In Kitchen: Derby FD

Fire officials said the blaze broke out in the third floor kitchen of a two-family Derby home.

DERBY, CT — Firefighters extinguished a blaze that broke out in the third floor kitchen of a two-family Derby home late Tuesday morning, according to fire officials.

In a news release, fire officials said a structure fire was reported just before noon at a New Haven Avenue home.

After locating the fire in the kitchen, crews were able to extinguished the blaze in a few short minutes, officials said. Shelton crews then searched each apartment.

The fire was contained to the third floor kitchen, however the home was deemed uninhabitable due to water and smoke damage. The American Red Cross assisted residents with emergency accommodations, officials said.

No injuries were reported. Route 34 was shut down for approximately 30 minutes while crews extinguished the fire, officials said.

The Derby Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire, officials said. A Shelton building official also responded to the home.
