How Much Do CT Residents Pay In Taxes Compared To The Rest Of The U.S.?
Personal finance website WalletHub crunched the numbers and ranks which states pay the most - and the least - in taxes.

If you live in Connecticut, you already knew this... you're paying a lot in taxes. How much? According to a new report by the personal finance website WalletHub, quite a lot.
As you prepare to file your personal taxes next month, know this: Connecticut has the sixth highest effective tax rate in the United States, WalletHub states.
The effective total state and local tax rate on an average Connecticut household is 13.56 percent. Only Illinois (14.76 percent), Nebraska (13.80), Wisconsin (13.60), New York (13.58) and Rhode Island (13.57) are worse.

At the other end of the spectrum, the effective total state and local tax rate that Alaskans pay is only 5.64 percent, the lowest rate in the nation. Rounding out the top five are Delaware (6.07 percent), Montana (6.89), Wyoming (7.43) and Nevada (7.66).
"Every year, the average U.S. household pays more than $5,700 in federal income taxes, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics," writes WalletHub senior writer and editor John S. Kiernan. "And while we’re all faced with that same obligation, there is significant disparity when it comes to state and local taxes. Taxpayers in the most tax-expensive states, for instance, pay three times more than those in the cheapest states to meet their civic burden.

To come up with the ranking, WalletHub crunched numbers from the various taxes we pay, real estate, motor vehicle, income, and sales and excise taxes. Click here to read WalletHub's full methodology.
U.S. households pay an average of $5,700 in federal taxes every year, and in Connecticut, tack on another $7,361 in average annual state and local taxes, according to WalletHub.
In Illinois, that extra amount is $8,011, the highest amount in the country. And in Alaska, that number is only $3,060.
