Telecommunications Installer and Field Technician, Classic Car Enthusiast, Beloved Husband & Father
Joseph Scalzi, age 59, beloved husband of Melissa Bowen Scalzi of
Ansonia, died suddenly Thursday, December 17, 2020 at Griffin Hospital. Born in
Bridgeport on November 5, 1961, he was the son of the late Anthony and Veronica
Glita Scalzi. Mr. Scalzi was raised in Milford and was a 1979 graduate of
Jonathan Law High School. He worked as a skilled telecommunications installer
and field technician for Frontier Communications for 24 years, previously
employed with SNET, SBC and AT&T. Mr. Scalzi was a classic car enthusiast
and was often found with his 1975 VW beetle convertible at area car cruises and
car shows. He loved music, singing & dancing and amassed a huge record and CD
collection of all genres of music. He was often found focusing on a crossword
puzzle. He will be long remembered for the love he had for his family. In addition
to his wife of 26 years, he is survived by his devoted children, Rose Marie (James)
Nolan of Branford, James E. Scalzi and William A. Scalzi, both of Derby; a sister,
Susan (John) Gill of Orange; a brother, Anthony Scalzi of PA; and his best friend,
Kevin Porat of New Fairfield; as well as several beloved nieces and nephews. He
was predeceased by a sister-in-law Christine Scalzi. A Mass of Christian Burial,
Meeting Directly at Church, will be celebrated Tuesday, December 22, 2020 at
10:00 AM in Holy Rosary Church, 10 Father Salemi Dr., Ansonia. Interment will
be private. Family and friends are invited to attend a walk-through visitation on
Monday, December 21, 2020 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Wakelee Memorial
Funeral Home, 167 Wakelee Avenue, Ansonia. Please be advised that all
protocol, screening and social restrictions of the Covid-19 Pandemic will be
exercised. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
