Lauretti Warns Of No Increase For School Budget

Mayor Mark Lauretti said he doesn't want to give the Board of Education a budget increase and criticized current spending.

SHELTON, CT — Mayor Mark Lauretti said that he doesn't want to give the Board of Education anymore money for its budget and criticized the superintendent and board members for poorly managing funds.

Lauretti told the Shelton Herald that the school system has overspent and he won't let the city's general fund cover any budget deficit.

Superintendent Chris Clouet is currently creating a budget proposal that asks for a 2.99 percent increase and estimated that it would take a 3.98 percent budget increase to keep the school at current service levels. He also contended that the school system manages its money well and is audited every year.
