A list of affected employees and their titles was also included in the notice.

A PerkinElmer spokesperson confirmed Thursday morning the company's decision to close its manufacturing activities at the Bridgeport Avenue facility.

"This will result in the separation our valued manufacturing workforce at the Shelton site, leading to the termination of 68 employees," the spokesperson said in an email to Patch, "however PerkinElmer will retain a number of non-manufacturing related roles at our current Shelton location, including high-value R&D and support function positions."

The company moved to Fairfield County in the 1940's, CT Post reports.
