Man Accused Of Entering Shelton Home, Stealing Woman's Phone Sentenced To Prison: Police

Police said a New Haven man accused of entering a woman's Shelton home and stealing her phone has been sentenced to prison.

SHELTON, CT — A New Haven man accused of entering a woman's Shelton home and stealing her phone was recently sentenced to prison, according to a news release shared by the Shelton Police Department.

According to a news release from the State of Connecticut Division of Criminal Justice, Office of the State's Attorney shared to Facebook by police, Francisco Cabassa, 43, of New Haven, was sentenced Tuesday to nine years in prison.

The sentence was announced by the Ansonia-Milford Judicial District State's Attorney's Office, according to police.

The sentence was stayed until May 13 due to pending cases in the New Haven Judicial District, according to police.

According to police, the sentence stems from a November 2024 investigation by the Shelton Police Department involving a violation of a protective order at a Shelton home.

On Jan. 9, a superior court jury in Derby found Cabassa guilty of two counts of violation of a protective order, three counts of interfering with an officer, sixth-degree larceny and third-degree criminal mischief, according to police.

According to police, evidence at trial indicated Cabassa violated a protective order by entering a woman's Shelton home late at night, confronting her and stealing her phone.

Officers later located Cabassa nearby and arrested him after a struggle, police said.
