Man Dies in Crash on Route 8 in Shelton

A North Carolina man died in an accident early Monday morning in Shelton.

According to State Police, a vehicle was traveling northbound at a high speed on Route 8, north of Exit 13 in Shelton.

The driver of the vehicle, Jose Gutierrez, 29, of Bridgeport lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree, coming to an uncontrolled rest in the right shoulder at around 1:44 a.m., police said.

Gutierrez and the man in the passenger seat, Anthony Tenn, 29, of Stratford were extricated from the vehicle and transported to Bridgeport Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Fausto Rivera, 20, of Greenville, North Carolina who was sitting in the back seat was ejected from the vehicle and located approximately 25 feet away from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:57 a.m., police said.

Rivera’s next of kin have been notified. 

The case is pending further investigation.
