Man Killed in Shelton Commercial Fire

Police say early investigation shows the man jumped from the fourth floor to escape the fire.

SHELTON, CT — A man was killed after he apparently jumped from a fourth floor window to escape a fire that broke out at a commercial building in Shelton, police said.

Police say they received several 911 calls around 5 a.m. Saturday reporting that the commercial building located at 33 Hull Street was on fire. Shelton police and fire found that the fourth floor of the building was fully "engulfed in flames."

A man identified as 69-year-old Randol Rios, of Shelton, was discovered at the foot of the building badly injured and burned. He was taken to Bridgeport Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police say early investigation revealed Rios jumped from a window on the fourth floor to escape the fire. Police said Rios was an employee of Machine Builders of New England, a company that occupied the fourth floor of the building.

A firefighter was injured fighting the blaze and was treated for injuries and released.
