Nursing Homes in Shelton, Stamford Fined after Patient Deaths
The separate deaths occurred at the facilities in January.

SHELTON, CT - The nursing homes Apple Rehab Shelton Lakes in Shelton and Long Ridge Post-Acute Care in Stamford separately were fined thousands of dollars by the state Department of Public Health following patient deaths at both facilities.
Long Ridge Post-Acute Care was found to have mishandled the patient's death on Jan. 24, and was fined more than $5,000, reports Connecticut Health I-Team. The facility was cited for erroneous record keeping that confused whether there was a "do not resuscitate" order on file, and over miscommunication between nursing staff and physicians, according to I-Team.
Apple Rehab Shelton Lakes was fined $3,000 following the Jan. 22 death of a patient for which CPR was not initiated. The patient had an order on file prohibing intubation, which a registered nurse was said to believe meant CPR should not be initiated, according to I-Team.
