
Anthony (Tony) Joseph Vano, Sr., 74, Longs, SC originally from Milford, CT, peacefully passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2022 surrounded with family by his side. Tony is survived by his wife, Judy Vano, of Longs, SC. Tony was born May 28, 1948, to Florence and Anthony Vano in Bridgeport, CT. Tony and Judy had three sons, Anthony J. Vano, Jr., Joseph R. Vano, Sr. and Robert A. Vano.
He is predeceased by his parents, Anthony & Florence Vano and cousin Robert Marchetti. Tony leaves behind Judy, his beloved wife of 52 years, three loving sons and their wives, Tony and Sue Vano of Ansonia, Joe and Cely Vano of Trumbull, and Rob and Lucy Vano of Trumbull. His six grandchildren, Dylan (Lex), Bryan (Jessica), JR, Jaxson, Michael and McKenzie and his three great grandchildren, Ava, Cole and Oakley. He also leaves behind a large extended family and a close group of friends who loved him dearly.
Tony started his career for the United States Postal Service in 1966 as a letter carrier. He took a leave of absence from USPS to enlist in the US Navy in 1968, where he served aboard the U.S.S. Parsons as a radio man during the Vietnam War from 1969-1971. After his service Tony rejoined the United States Postal Service where he worked his way up to Labor Relations Manager before retiring in 2001. During his retirement he enjoyed woodworking and golfing where he worked part time at the Orchards Golf Course in Milford. Tony loved sports where he played basketball for Orcutt Boys Club in Bridgeport and continued playing basketball at Jonathan Law High School. He enjoyed coaching his kids in Harry Russell and Stratford PAL baseball and Sterling House basketball as well as watching his grandchildren play baseball, basketball, football, golf, lacrosse, marching band, soccer, and wrestling.

Friends may greet the family at Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, on Friday, August 12, 2022 between 4pm and 7pm. On Monday, August 15th, a private burial is being held at State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Friends may leave condolences at www.riverviewfh.com.
