Obituary: Charles Vollaro

Beloved Husband, Father, and US Veteran.

Charles M. Vollaro, age 93, a lifelong resident of Shelton, entered into eternal rest on August 18, 2023 at Griffin Hospital. He was the devoted husband of 63 years to Jean E. (Nicholas) Vollaro.

He was born on October 30, 1929, in Shelton, son of the late Anthony and Lucy Vollaro. Charles proudly served his country during the Korean War as a Sergeant in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Orleans, France in the Headquarters Group. Upon returning from the service, he spent 33 years at Bank of America, rising up to Assistant Bank Manager prior to his retirement.

One of Charlie’s greatest joys in life was spending time with his family. He was an active member of the Shelton chapter of AARP, where he served as treasurer for over ten years. He also volunteered his time at the Valley Red Cross. Charlies was a member of the Derby and Shelton Senior Centers. He attended mass for over 60 years at St. Lawrence Parish.

Charles is also survived by his two sons, Mark Vollaro of Shelton and David Vollaro and his wife Beverly of Glen Ridge, N.J., three grandchildren, Shawn Vollaro, Hayley Fiorentino, and Allison Fiorentino, sister Lucille Roog and her husband Walter, brother Robert Vollaro and his wife Iris, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Lillian Raro and her husband Al, Frances Raro and her husband William, and his brother Butch Vollaro and his wife Julie.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton.
