Obituary: Charles Ward Whiting
Founder and former Scoutmaster of Boy Scouts Troop 63 and Past Assistant Fire Chief of the Woodbridge Fire Department

Charles Ward Whiting, age 94, of Woodbridge entered into rest on Friday, January 20, 2023 at his home with his loving family by his side.
He was the devoted husband of 71 years to Barbara (Lopato) Whiting. Charles was born in New Haven, on April 26, 1928 son of the late Leonard and Rhoda (Andrews) Whiting and was a lifelong Woodbridge resident.
He proudly served with the U.S. Navy. Charles worked for the Department of Public Works in Woodbridge for many years until his retirement. He was a member of the Woodbridge Fire Department for 75 years and was the former Assistant Fire Chief for 2 years. He started Boy Scout Troop 63 in Woodbridge and was the Scoutmaster for numerous years. Charles and five volunteers built Camp Whiting, a cabin that local scouts were able to enjoy. He also loved photography. Most of all, he cherished spending time with his family.

Charles was the beloved father of Charles (Donna) Whiting, Jr., Joseph (Sylvia) Whiting and Beverly Grant, loving grandfather of Dawn (Massimo) Parmisani, Charlene (Janet Sorentino) Whiting and Katrina Whiting and great grandfather of Massimo Parmisani. He was also survived by several nieces and nephews. Charles was predeceased by a brother Leonard Whiting, a sister Gertrude Robinson and a son-in-law Larry Grant.
Friends may call on Monday from 4 to 7 PM at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Rd., Shelton. On Tuesday, his funeral procession will leave the funeral home at 10:15 AM his graveside service at 11:00 AM at Northwest Cemetery in Woodbridge.
