Obituary: George F. Loughrey, 86, Of Shelton
He taught math and coached varsity football at St. Joseph High School, Kolbe Cathedral, Central and Bassick High School.

George F. Loughrey, age 86, beloved husband of Barbara Fox Loughrey of Shelton, passed away on Friday, November 18, 2022 at Gardner Heights in Shelton. Born in Holyoke, MA on March 14, 1936, he was a son of the late George and Madeline (Kiley) Loughrey.
George proudly served in the United States Army and attended the University of Bridgeport where he received both his undergraduate and masters' degrees. He became a teacher and taught math at St. Joseph High School, Kolbe Cathedral, Central and Bassick High School and was the varsity football coach at all of them. He had a passion for coaching but his greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his wife and family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his beloved wife Barbara of 60 years, survivors include a son, John Fox Loughrey of Shelton and Shannon Kelley and her husband Pat of Oxford, a sister, Joanne Lucy and five grandchildren, Brittany Jean Whitmeyer, Kylie Erin Whitmeyer, John Thomas Whitmeyer, Erin Elizabeth Loughrey and Thomas Fox Loughrey, a son-in-law, John Whitmeyer and a daughter-in-law, Catherine Rosa as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Erin Whitmeyer and a brother, David Loughrey.
All are invited to meet directly in St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Ave., Shelton on Monday, November 28, 2022 at 10 a.m. for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow in St. Michael Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may greet the family on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at The Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.
